Cherry Hill Hardwoods, Inc.
est. 1987
Where we've been
Clarence Hoffman founded Cherry Hill Hardwoods, Inc. in 1987 alongside his two sons, Rick and Jerry. Prior to establishing the company, Clarence spent 25 years working in the family sawmill business with his father and brothers, continuing a long-standing Hoffman family tradition in the lumber industry.
Raised in this environment, Clarence’s sons grew up immersed in the hardwood business. Rick Hoffman graduated in 1981 from the NHLA Residency Program in Memphis, Tennessee, and has since continued to expand his expertise in all aspects of hardwood lumber processing. He currently serves as one of the sales directors for Cherry Hill Hardwoods.
At its inception, Cherry Hill Hardwoods primarily served the green lumber market in a grading and resale capacity. In 1988, the company completed its first major expansion by entering the kiln-dried lumber market, installing two steam-heated conventional kilns with a combined drying capacity of 136,000 board feet.
In 1991, recognizing growing demand in the American hardwood export market, the company added a 500,000 board foot pre-dryer to improve product uniformity, quality, and consistency to meet the standards of a global customer base. In 1997, two additional 68,000 board foot kilns were installed, increasing total drying capacity to 750,000 board feet. This expansion marked the company’s final major infrastructure investment before the turn of the millennium.
Where we're going
Beginning in the late 2000s, Clarence’s grandchildren—Wes Hoffman and Shena Pinto—became integral to the company’s daily operations. Wes oversees green lumber purchasing along with kiln staging and drying operations. Shena serves as Chief Accounting and Human Resources Executive, managing payroll, insurance, and financial administration. Her husband, Jason Pinto, is the yard production manager, overseeing daily yard operations, including green and kiln-dried lumber processing and surfacing activities.
The last decade (2010-present) has also been a season of great expansion. In 2015, a new processing line (grading station, stacker, and pull-chain) was added. In 2016-17, three new steam kilns, with a total drying capacity of 150,000 bdft were added. In 2020, a new warehouse, with a total floor space of 30,000 square feet, was constructed. And in 2021, a second 500,000 bdft capacity pre-dryer was added, giving us a total drying capacity of 1.2 million board feet plus.
Cherry Hill operates three semi-trucks daily, supporting both domestic and export deliveries, and employs more than 20 full-time team members. We remain committed to our community, employee development, production excellence, and the cultivation of strong, long-term business relationships built on trust and integrity.
